The following Masons met on October 11, 1839 at the home of Brother Edwin Waller to petition the Grand Lodge of the Republic of Texas for a new Lodge:

Alexander J. Russell (1824 – 1850) Worshipful Master, was elected Grand Junior Warden in 1839 and Deputy Grand Master in 1840.

Edward Burleson (1798 – 1851) was an important military leader in the early Texas history, defending settlers against Indians and defeated the Mexican army in several battles including Bexar and San Jacinto. In 1838 he founded the town of Waterloo, which later became the City of Austin. In 1841 he was elected Vice-President of the Republic of Texas. When he died in 1851 he became the first person to be buried in the newly established State Cemetery.

James Izod – Senior Warden, he was elected Deputy Grand Master and Grand Treasurer in 1840.

Thomas Jones Hardeman (1788 – 1854) was elected Grand Junior Warden in 1845, Grand Senior Warden in 1846 and Grand Master in 1850.

Charles Mason (1810 – 1882) was appointed Grand Senior Deacon in 1848 and Grand Pursuivant in 1845. He fought in the battles of Gonzales, Bexar and San Jacinto. In 1838 he was acting Secretary of War, and in 1839 he became the first auditor of the republic.

James Burke (1805 – 1880) was known as the “Sunday School Man of Texas”, he established several churches throughout Texas, and brought more desirable text books into schools. He was the assistant clerk of the House of Representatives during the First Congress. In 1837 he started the first daily newspaper in Texas that reported on the activities of congress.

Augustus Seeger – Secretary

Isaac Campbell (1813 – 1843) was part of the original committee that selected the village of Waterloo to become the new capital of the republic. Later on he became a congressman in the Third Congress of the Republic of Texas.

George W. Sinks was the chief clerk of the General Post Office in 1841

W. H. H. Johnson

Joseph Waples (1798 – 1846) was in charge of moving the archives of the government of the republic from Houston to Austin in 1839. He was the chief clerk of the Texas State Department, and in 1841 was the Secretary of State.

John Jarman

Herman Ward was elected Grand Tiler in 1839 and 1840.

Louis P. Cooke (1811 – 1849) attended the US Military Academy at West Point. He was a member of the Third and Sixth Congress, and later appointed the Secretary of the Texas Navy from 1839 to 1841. During the Mexican-American war he served under General Zachary Taylor.

A. S. Hammack

Edwin Waller (1800 – 1881) was the first mayor of Austin, and hosted the first lodge meeting. Bro Waller was one of the signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence, and was elected in November 1835 to be a member of the provisional council.
